This is a sweet love story wrapped inside the life of BDSM. I Loved the way the author developed the plot with Lucia and Antonio. Lucia is still devastated after seven years from losing both parents. They had both been members of The Theives Guild and taught Lucia many things. Now working as a museum curator, Lucia finds that stealing a painting every year on the anniversary of her parents death helps somewhat to sooth her loss and keep their memory alive. But when she attempts to steel one from Antonio Morretti she is in for more than she bargained for. In fact, her very life may be on the line.There are so many great things I loved about this book. Tara Crescent developed the relationship between Lucia and Antonio with respect, caring and kindness. Both had gone through dramatic events when younger and both learned to appreciate what the other had to offer this budding relationship. The sweet flirty and vivacious way they talk to each other was so cute as the two learn to trust and fall more each day.
The intimate BDSM part of their relationship is graphic and meant for adults who are interested in this particular genre.

At Thief in Venice wasn't totally what I was expecting it to be, while yes part of it was that Lucia stole a painting, but she wasn't an art thief for a living. She stole one piece of art each year on the Anniversary of her parents deaths to honor them, and she always stole of piece that has been taken from it's rightful owner and returned it to them.
Antonio's job is to catch the thief and make sure they are punished for their wrong doing. But when he gets ahold of Lucia. he decides he will be keeping her to himself and punishing her himself.
Lucia is feisty and determined to not get involved with any man. Antonio is very taken with Lucia and wants more from her then she is willing to give. So he sets out to change her mind by taking it slow, letting her gets to know him and showing her he is a good man...... oh and also showing her how dominate he is in the bedroom!!!!!!
Great book, great sex and a beautiful place to fall in love at Venice!
I have read all of Tara Crescent books. This book unlike the others I have read from her didn't engage me. I enjoyed the fact that it was well written,but just couldn't get into the book itself. I felt unattached to the characters themselves. I didn't feel that Antonio and Lucia were as developed as other characters in Tara's books. The development just was not there. The relationship between the 2 seemed rushed,and although there was a connection/trust between the 2 we don't get to see that develop as much as I would like. I would have enjoyed a bit more back story on them. Lucia seemed to be in contradiction to herself a lot. She would be thinking one direction about how things were going but then she would act in the opposite. I was a bit confused when she started calling Antonio Sir, she just didn't seem that type of submissive based on past playroom scenes. And even Antonio had made it clear that he wasn't the type of Dom to follow strict rules of play. It just didn't flow well. The one thing I liked and always like about Tara's books is the BDSM scenes, She always does a great job balancing out strong/tender Doms. And she always follows safe,sane,consensual play. The BDSM scenes in this book are hot and if you are into those this book is great to read for those. But if you want to connect with the characters then this book fell short.

Lucia never wants to be involved with any man to the point that she actually cares for him. Every chance she gets she runs from Antonio and the feelings he evokes in her. The question is can she take a chance and allow herself to free her emotions.
I liked Lucia from the start. She was spunky and smart. Her little cat and mouse game with Antonio was entertaining. Antonio was a contradiction in every way. As the head of the Thieves Guild he had to be ruthless but he was different when it came to Lucia. Whatever he saw in her made him realize that she was worth the fight.
Lucia is a curator at the Doge Palace in Venice. She is also the daughter of thieves guild members. Years ago when her mother died of cancer and her father commited suicide, she found comfort in the eyes of the Madonna in the art work she protects. Every year, on the anniversery of her parents death, Lucia has stolen a piece of art work and had it returned to its rightful owner. This year when she discovers a painting of the Madonna in the Doge's collection is a fake, she is determined to find the original and steal it, then return the painting to the museum.
After successfully stealing the original painting and replacing it with the fake, Lucia is approached by Antonio, the head of the thieves guild in Venice. Since he was the one that stole the painting when he was sixteen and replaced it with the fake, he wants the painting back. He takes the painting from her and offers her a choice, take her punishment from him or he turns her over to to the guilds enforcers. Given the choice between broken bones and a spanking from Antonio, she chooses the spanking. Antonio takes Lucia to his dungeon and punishes her until she begs him to take her. This is just the beginning of a must read full of BDSM. Be prepared for lots of hot punishment and submission. I loved this book.
