Physics for Scientists and Engineers a Strategic Approach with Modern Physics Randall D Knight 9781256913009 Books
College Physics by Knight does a fantastic job of putting complicated physics concepts to elegant explanation and diagrams. The organization and consistency of throughout the book made learning predictable and thus easy to follow. The practice questions at the end of each chapter are of a wide range of difficulties, providing practice for all phases of learning. Some of the practice questions assumed values that were mentioned in the associated chapter (ex. specific index of refraction for glass) but not in the problem itself, which made finding the solution more difficult. It would be helpful if all of the values required for solving the problem were given in the question, as on an exam.
Overall, this textbook has been greatly beneficial in my understanding of physics. I've had the unfortunate luck of getting some pretty terrible physics lecturers, I owe my success in physics to Knight!

Physics for Scientists and Engineers a Strategic Approach with Modern Physics Randall D Knight 9781256913009 Books Reviews
While this book was required for a course I took, I still think I would purchase/rent a different text for the same class if I had to do it over. It explained things well enough, but I've read better physics text books. I was constantly referring to my older texts and also Physics Work Books (supplementary to course work) in order to fully understand a given concept. Science writing doesn't have to be difficult to digest, and this book was on the verge of being vague and not offering enough detail to answer all of my questions.
This book really helped me with my class and it was in amazing shape! Brand New condition and I paid 150 less than it was going on chegg and I normally get all my books from chegg!
The content of the workbook is OK as there are a few linguistic mistakes here and there. The content is not very extensive but there is plenty of it. It's a required book for my class and it works, but the book could have had more "context-rich" problems of incorporating concepts into one problem rather than incorporating a single concept in a problem and then moving on. I have to say that it is quite scummy to charge extra for the answers to these problems as it digs a deeper hole into pockets of college students of which are already deep.
This book is great. I got it with the Workbook and access code for a great price. I took an introductory physics class with less math which was nice for the concepts, but I think this book is written even better. There are various notes throughout the book that are very helpful. It has really helped me to understand a few concepts that didn't stick with me as well in multi-variable calculus. The whole book is very well written and easy to understand. I will definitely be keeping this book even after I finish the class.
I hated bad lectures and physics. After studying with this book, I realized that I still hate bad lectures, and that physics is actually quite interesting and not too formidable a topic. I had these realizations after my lecturer was horrible and I ended up basically teaching myself by reading this book.
It explains everything clearly, and you can just chuck this heavy book down to the stage and knock out the lecturer so you can get some quality learning done. Just kidding, don't hurt people. But I think this is probably the first textbook I actually liked.
I bought this manual because i had a terrible college physics teacher and needed some extra guidance to complete the homework. I had previously purchased a solutions manual only once for a textbook, that was for precalculus. That book worked through every problem in the book, step-by-step, in a clear and helpful manner. It was a wonderful help and pretty much taught me the material instead of my then also terrible instructor. This book was a let down for a few reasons
1. The manual only covers half of the textbook. You have to buy another equally thin manual for the later half of the book. The publisher needlessly broke the manual into two thin volumes to squeeze more money out of students.
2. The manual only covers SOME problems. Less than half. This was problematic because, although the authors say they selected one of each TYPE of problem, this really wasn't true or very helpful. I had a few homework assignments where the manual did not help with a single one of the problems.
3. The manual's step-by-step instructions were seldom clear. The calculations skipped steps, and the explanations were weak and confusing.
Overall the manual was some help. It did usually help me with the problems that it included, but not always. It was useful, but not very, and certainly not worth $30 (or $60 if you buy both volumes). It's unfortunate that the popular textbook College Physics has such a weak manual, especially considering the rarity of effective physics teachers. I would not recommend this manual. Reading the chapters and referring to the examples provides about as much help, and at no additional cost.
This has honestly been one of the best physics texts I have ever worked with. The chapters are very well thought out and designed, and the author has clearly made a point of justifying the equations and variables he uses in examples. I believe the greatest strength of this text, however, are the end of chapter problems. A lot of texts use problems that are exceptionally difficult for those new to the subject, relying on knowledge from later chapters. Knight has developed a sequence of problems that both mirror the examples provided, but add in minor difficulties over time to really help grasp the material. Highly recommended for adoption and as a reference text.
