Undead and Unwed Queen Betsy Book 1 MaryJanice Davidson Books Reviews
Ok so if you are into serious-deep-thinking-save-the world kind of reading, this is so NOT the book for you! But on the contrary if you like to spend a lovely afternoon (that's what it took for me to finish it) meeting a bubblegum-chic who happens to be very dead, I'm sorry, un-dead, a newly rise vampire and have a serious shoe fetish, damn you are in the right place honey!
I've read quite a lot of books in the paranormal section, a lot of them about vampires, heck I am almost ___ years old and I have to admit I fell hard for Twilight and the Vampire Diaries just like your average teenager and I am not ashame of admitting that!, but the author here has done such a different take in what could be a very old recycle average story.
Betsy is funny, naive, narsiccistic, has a pure-non beating heart and has you cheering for her all along the story. Sinclair is everything you dream in a man, strong, intelligent, classy, extremely goodlooking plus he's got fangs and quite a car collection.
Please don't laugh at me, and if this story ever gets turn into a movie, I can help but suggest that Nostro be played by Danny DeVito! You'll just have to read the book to understand why.....
Undead and Unwed is a fun and quick read. One night Betsy is attacked and the perps are never arrested. A few months later she goes out to bring her cat back in the house when she is struck by a car and killed. When she wakes up in the morgue she is confused and the meat of the novel begins. While Betsy is a fun and interesting character she likes shoes way to much. The supporting characters really help move the story along. I would like to get to know her mother and her best friend a little better and that is what the others novels are for.I plan on reading another two or three of them.
I first read this 5 years ago and enjoyed it enough to read all the books that have been released to date. Reading the first in the series now after reading the series reminded me what I liked in the first place. The world of Betsy is definitely not for everyone. She can be a very self-absorbed, careless, grainy kind of character. But at the end she does care for those around her. For me this series was a funny, silly, brain candy. Writing in the first six books were the best but as the series goes on it gets worse. For me I'm invested in these characters and will read until the last book of the series is published. For those that haven't read this series read the first six books.
Betsy is having a bad day - first she loses her job, then she loses her life. Surpringly she wakes up and eventually discovers that Shea's a vampire.
This novel idea has many, many amusing moments - such as her thoughts of what will happen at her old job now that all of the support staff has been laid off. The main character, Betsy, is a funny (slightly shallow and materialistic) person whose insights can make you smile. It's a good, quick, funny read. Loved her interactions with her step-mother. The core characters in this book are all pretty interesting. I'm loving king forward to the next book in this series.
I only gave 4 stars because I think the whole racial jokes/interactions/comments between Betsy and her best friend Jessica is unnecessary IMHO. Also could do with less sex.
Hmm... Please before you read this book know it's a paranormal romantic comedy, and it's a hoot and a half. Betsy, laid off secretary and shoe whore, wakes up dead! Not only does she wake up dead, but she is also mired in the muck of vampire politics. This no nonsense fashion maven would rather have been planted six feet under than deal with the paranormal world. Which makes her coming to terms with her new status even more funny. I am so happy I found this series as I needed something light to read and make me just relax and enjoy the book ride.
