This series continues to get better with each book. I am a big fan of the Agatha Raisin series and at first I thought that this series was inferior but after reading 11 of the series I find that it is almost as well done as the Raisin series. Hamish in going through personal trials has become more likeable and more human while still retaining his uncanny ability to solve murders. This is a very good book and it's nice to see other police offices treating him with some respect as I had grown bored with the horrible Blair. It's a shame he has to go a long way from home to get that respect from fellow officers.Tags : Death of a Nag (Hamish Macbeth Mysteries, Book 11) [M. C. Death of a Nag Hamish Macbeth Mysteries Book 11 M C Beaton 9781482956337 Books Reviews
I always enjoy being taken swept into Hamish's Scotland. This series is an easy read, always a good story with great descriptives that make me feel as if I'm there.
I have all of them including ones on tape! I've shared them with people who are sick or dying and they've loved them and asked for more. Something very comforting and interesting about these stories. One cannot slow the reading down enough!
it's a bit funny but not exciting
Great fun with Hamish on vacation. As always, a good mystery romp with some laugh out loud scenes thrown in. Such is the life of a bachelor policeman in the Scottish Highlands.
Beaton's books are always quick, clever, and highly entertaining. I was surprised at how invested I've become in the series characters. Despite the fast read, Beaton manages to build a complex, 3-dimensional protagonist that you are compelled to root for--and read about. Over and over.
Fun series. Treat yourself and read them all; you won't be sorry.
All of the Hamish Macbeth stories are basically the same with a slight variation of plot and characters. Still, they are fairly entertaining, and remind me of the Agatha Christie Hercule Poirot series, just set in another country (although still in Great Britain) and a little more modern. If you you're from a small town, like I am, these might have a special appeal to you. I'd recommend these books for light mysteries.
Poor Constable Hamish Macbeth, as if it were not bad enough that he has been demoted, his engagement to the coolly beautiful Priscilla Halburton-Smythe is over, and the villagers of Lochdubh all blame him for the break-up. In hopes of putting some distance between himself and the villagers' hostility, Hamish decides to go on a holiday to the northern seaside village of Skag.
Hamish decides to stay at the Friendly boarding house, which is anything but that. There, Hamish endures unpleasant hosts who serve inedible food, as well as a motley crew of fellow guests. Of course, this would not be a mystery if someone were not murdered. So, it is no surprise when one of his fellow vacationers, an unpleasant fellow who delights in berating his fellow man, is the one to meet his maker. Unfortunately, Hamish becomes the number one suspect, given the fact that just prior to the victim's death, Hamish had an altercation with him.
This is the eleventh book in a series of cozy mysteries featuring lovable Highlander, Hamish Macbeth. The book is also laced with sly humor throughout that is engaging, keeping the mood of the book light and highly enjoyable. As with all cozy mysteries, it is not so much the mystery that is of import but the characters that revolve around the mystery. While the mysteries are intriguing, they are the framework around which the characters evolve. With the oddly endearing Hamish Macbeth, the author has created a character that keeps his many fans looking forward to the next book in the series.
